She feels it has created a great opportunity for presenting treatment options to patients, as  Dr. Jagwani loves teaching patients on making “informed decisions” through education.

Dr. Raveena Jagwani is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Dept of Oral Biology at Stony Brook Dental School. By using new and innovative oral diagnostic tools and products, She teaches Clinical dentistry with an Oral Basic Science emphasis. This is so one can appreciate the importance of the role the two play together in keeping not only the mouth but the entire body healthy. She enjoys her double life as a teacher and dentist.

Dr. Jagwani has many inspiring, beautiful memories of her 21 years of practice. The one that goes along with her “whole patient approach” is one of a young man in his thirties who came to Dr. Jagwani with concerns about this “burning mouth,” which was a new occurrence for him. She saw some early decay and significant changes in his saliva consistency and noted he had recently changed his medication for his medical condition. Dr. Jagwani informed him that she was very happy to help address his teeth issues, but that there will be recurrence due to salivary changes. She asked him to please consult with his primary with the information she gave him. The patient came back a month later, so happy for his comfortable mouth, as the primary was able to change him back to a less drying medication for his medical condition. The young man was so grateful he was and very much appreciated the whole patient approach.

Dr. Jagwani was born in Hong Kong, came to NY as a child and loves the diversity that New York offers. She grew up in Queens and now resides on Long Island with her husband and three children. Her family loves doing anything which brings them outside, such as sports, travel, and walking Hope – their mini Golden Retriever. Dr. Jagwani also loves to play tennis and is active in their school district serving a parent run organization for Special Education families. She is also on the board of a non -profit (One Love Outreach Mission), which was started during the pandemic and serves the homeless in NYC and families who are facing homelessness on Long Island.

What others are saying about The Smilist Dental

“What a great experience! Everyone who works here is kind and caring. They take the time to explain what’s going on. They’re friendly. They make you feel taken care of. I couldn’t be happier with my experience, and I normally hate going to the dentist.”
