Personal Biography
Dr. Kolonda has been practicing dentistry since 2019, and is currently working towards his MPH at CUNY School of Public Health.
Dr. Kolanda’s favorite part of the job is meeting so many different individuals and easing their worries of visiting the dentist by making them as comfortable as possible in his care. His philosophy is to truly be a restorative dentist. If Dr. Kolanda is providing treatment to a patient, he wants the results to be as similar to their original anatomy as possible, so the patient feels like nothing has really changed. He prides himself on having his work appear as natural as possible.
There’s a few times during Dr. Kolanda’s career where he has had patients cry happy tears. It’s usually due to improving the aesthetics of their smile or by relieving them of pain, but each time it happens, it makes him feel proud to be their dentist.
Dr. Kolanda grew up in St. Louis, and has also lived in Chicago and Boston before coming to New York. His parents immigrated to the United States from Sri Lanka about 45 years ago. He also has an older brother and sister who are both also working in the medical field. Dr. Kolanda has a major passion for traveling, as he’s visited 25+ countries so far, and for all things food (cooking, trying new cuisines, and going to as many restaurants as he can).
Dr. Kolanda’s hobbies include playing and watching basketball, working out, volunteering, visiting museums, reading, and going to concerts or live shows. He is planning on getting into sculpting because he believes it will be a great artistic outlet for him, which will also help improve his dentistry. Dr. Kolanda also hopes to run the NYC marathon in the near future!

What others are saying about The Smilist Dental
“What a great experience! Everyone who works here is kind and caring. They take the time to explain what’s going on. They’re friendly. They make you feel taken care of. I couldn’t be happier with my experience, and I normally hate going to the dentist.”
